A beginner friendly Winifred deck I've put together for introducing new players to the game, using sets I currently own (TDL, PtC, TFA, EotE, FoHV, starters). Of my intro decks, this one has the steepest learning curve. New players often struggle with the mechanics of commiting to skill tests, so I'd recommend this deck for savvy gamers who pick up on complex mechanics quickly, or for the person hosting the game to help demonstrate how committing skill cards works.
The deck showcases basic strategies and powerful cards for Winifred and the Rogue class in general. Wini gives us an archetypal Rogue statline that wants to evade foremost, but is still able to pick up clues and blast enemies when it counts. The difference is that she wants to be committing multiple cards to tests whenever possible, and you should make that very clear to the one piloting this pilot. This deck also features all the staple Rogue mechanics: over-succeeding, bonus actions, evasion payoff, using agility for non-foot tests, and passing off (willpower) tests they have no hope of tackling on their own! If the player is consistently triggering their ability, they should be able to roughly cycle through their whole deck on an average scenario. For this reason, don't play Dunwich with this one!
Also included with the side deck are 19 exp worth of upgrades to be used either in a standalone game or as recommended upgrades for a campaign. For campaign play, I would recommend getting in order Opportunist > Lockpicks > Manual Dexterity > All In > everything else

Dec 06, 2024Yes and no. It's hard to resist a turn 1 Leo, and that hurts to lose - but there's a few You Handle This One's in there for insurance, though admittedly more for willpower stuff. For the first few scenarios it can be a little risky, but realistically by the time you get halfway through a campaign, she can potentially cycle her deck multiple times per scenario. |
Dec 06, 2024Oh, and she's also not massively reliant on her assets. You'll probably have access to multiple assets very quickly, and really, the worst thing to lose is your cigarette case. |
Intriguing. Very vulnerable to asset discard effects.
