I've built an Ursula Downs deck focusing heavily on movement and clue-gathering, aptly named "Moving and Seeking." This looks like a very strong and thematic approach for Ursula, leveraging her innate ability to move and investigate efficiently.
Let's break down the deck's strengths and potential considerations:
Overall Strategy: Moving and Seeking Clues
The core of this deck revolves around Ursula's unique ability: After you move, you may take an additional investigate action. This allows her to cover ground quickly and gather clues at a rapid pace. The deck is packed with cards that enhance this strategy by providing:
Movement options: To trigger Ursula's ability more often.
Investigate boosts: To ensure she succeeds at finding clues.
Resource generation: To pay for her tools.
Utility: To handle various challenges that arise during investigations.
Assets:
1x Cámara plegable Hawk-Eye (Hawk-Eye Folding Camera): An excellent inclusion for Ursula. It's a permanent asset that gives her a consistent +1 Intellect, which is crucial for her investigations. The free clue after discovering 2 clues at a location is also a nice bonus, especially for a clue-focused investigator.
1x Código criptográfico (Cryptographic Cipher): A powerful clue-gathering tool. It allows you to discover clues without an investigate action, which is great for bypassing high shroud locations or getting extra clues. Its action cost can be significant, but it's a strong option.
2x Kit de huellas dactilares (Fingerprint Kit): A fantastic asset for investigators focused on high-shroud locations. It makes investigations at locations with 3 or more shroud much easier by providing a substantial +2 skill bonus.
2x La piedra Chthonian (The Chthonian Stone): This is an interesting choice. It's a Mystic card that can deal damage and prevent enemies from engaging you. While not directly tied to clue-gathering, it offers a way for Ursula to handle enemies without spending actions on fighting, letting her continue to move and investigate. It suggests a solo or duo-investigator context where Ursula isn't relying on a dedicated fighter.
2x Lupa (Magnifying Glass): A classic Seeker staple. It's cheap (0 cost) and provides a direct +1 Intellect for investigations. Crucial for boosting her base intellect.
2x Diente de Eztli (Tooth of Eztli): A very solid accessory for Ursula. It's a 0-cost asset that provides a Willpower boost and, more importantly, a free evade action (once per game). This can be a life-saver for Ursula, allowing her to escape enemies without using a precious action, letting her keep her turn focused on movement and clues.
2x Dr. Milan Christopher: A top-tier ally for Seekers. He provides an incredible 1 resource per clue discovered. This fuels Ursula's expensive tools and ensures she can keep playing her events and assets. Essential for her economy.
2x Dra. Elli Horowitz (Dr. Elli Horowitz): Another excellent ally for Ursula. She allows you to play an asset from your discard pile (up to 2 cost) when she enters play. This is fantastic for retrieving discarded Magnifying Glasses, Fingerprint Kits, or even a Chthonian Stone if it got discarded early. Her combat icon is also a nice bonus.
2x Trabajo de campo (Fieldwork): A great permanent asset for a moving-focused investigator. It provides a consistent +1 Intellect bonus, which directly helps all her investigate actions.
Eventos (Events)
2x Atajo (Shortcut): The quintessential movement event. It allows you to move to a connecting location and provides a bonus action. This is perfect for Ursula, allowing her to move and immediately get her extra investigate action, essentially getting two investigations for one action.
2x Bocetos absurdos (Preposterous Sketches): A strong resource generation event for Seekers. While it costs actions, it can net you a significant amount of resources, which is vital for playing your expensive allies and assets.
2x Búsqueda concienzuda (Drawn to the Flame): A powerful card for discovering clues, especially early on. It allows you to discover a clue at your location instantly, but comes with the drawback of drawing a treachery. For a clue-focused deck, this trade-off is often worth it.
2x Razonamiento lógico (Logical Reasoning): Excellent for either getting an extra clue (if your location has a low shroud) or reducing the shroud of a location. It provides crucial flexibility for clue-gathering.
2x Resolver el caso (Connect the Dots): A fantastic late-game (or mid-game) clue-gathering event. If you have 3 or more clues already, it allows you to discover 2 clues at your location for a single action. This is a very efficient way to clear high-shroud locations or just get a burst of clues.
Habilidad (Skills)
2x ¡Eureka! (Eureka!): A classic Seeker skill card. Provides a combat icon, but its real power is the ability to search your deck for a card and draw it if you succeed by 2 or more. This helps with deck consistency and finding key pieces.
2x Deducción (Deduction): Essential for any clue-focused investigator. It allows you to discover an additional clue if you succeed at an investigation. This doubles your clue output on a successful test.
Strengths of the Deck
High Clue-Gathering Potential: This deck is incredibly efficient at gathering clues. Between Ursula's ability, Magnifying Glass, Fingerprint Kit, Hawk-Eye Camera, Cryptographic Cipher, Drawn to the Flame, Logical Reasoning, and Connect the Dots, you'll be hoovering up clues at a rapid pace.
Excellent Movement: Shortcut and Jake Williams significantly enhance Ursula's mobility, allowing her to trigger her extra investigate action frequently and safely.
Potential Considerations / Areas for Improvement
Enemy Management (The Chthonian Stone): While The Chthonian Stone offers enemy management, it's the only real offensive option. In a solo game, you might find yourself wishing for a bit more reliable enemy evasion or damage if you're consistently drawing monsters. In a multiplayer game, if your team's fighter is struggling, this might feel insufficient. Consider if you'd prefer an extra evade option like "I've got a plan!" if you find you're still being overwhelmed.
Sanity Soak/Healing: Ursula has a decent 7 sanity, but with no dedicated sanity soak (like Elder Sign Amulet or allies with horror soak), particularly if you draw many sanity-damaging treacheries, you might find yourself struggling later in a scenario. This is a common Seeker weakness, and often relied on the team's Guardian or Mystic.
XP Path: As you gain XP, you'll have some fantastic upgrade options:
"I've got a plan!" (2) or (4): Very powerful for disposing of enemies without engaging them, fitting Ursula's hit-and-run style.
Research Librarian (1): To consistently tutor for your crucial Tome assets (Cryptographic Cipher, eventually Research notes).
Seeking Answers (2): To get clues from connecting locations, further enhancing her mobility theme.
Pathfinder (Permanent): Another fantastic movement card, allowing you to move for free after investigating. This combines exceptionally well with Ursula's ability.
Higher Education (Permanent): A classic Seeker upgrade that provides a flexible skill boost using resources.
Astrolabe (3): If you want to lean even harder into the multi-clue per location strategy.
Strong Economy: Dr. Milan Christopher is a phenomenal resource engine for a clue-focused investigator, ensuring you can afford your expensive assets and events. Preposterous Sketches adds another layer of resource generation.
Resilience and Flexibility: The Chthonian Stone and Tooth of Eztli provide solutions for handling enemies without relying solely on fighting, keeping Ursula focused on her primary goal. Logical Reasoning offers flexibility in clue-gathering.
Synergy: All the cards work together harmoniously to achieve the deck's goal of rapid clue discovery.
