- A few weeks ago I published 2 decks that were meant to be played in a group of 3 players. I finally took the time to publish the 3rd deck to complete the trio.
- The final trio is composed of:
- Sister Mary (main support, secondary flex)
- Carolyn Fern (main cluever, secondary support)
- Marion Tavares (this deck) (main fighter, secondary cluever)
- Note that despite being 3 guardians, all decks can be assembled using one single collection.
- Consistently trigger Marion's ability using the 20 events in the deck
- Fight with powerful events (1, 2, 3, 4), Brand of Cthugha and Beat Cop protected by Bandages
- Get clues with Old Keyring, "Look what I found!" and True Awakening
Fighting with events
- Radiant Smite Up to 4 damage at a very low cost. An obvious choice considering that this deck is meant to be paired with Sister Mary.
- Sweeping Kick 2 damage making good use of Marion's 3. Can evade elite enemies too.
- Toe to Toe 2 damage testless and resource free. Tanking the enemy's attack should not be a problem considering that you also have Carolyn Fern in your team.
- One-Two Punch Up to 3 damage if you can pass the first test. There are several skill boosting options in the deck to help with that (1, 2, 3, 4).
Fighting with assets
- Brand of Cthugha A secondary fighting option that takes up no hand slot. To be used mostly on low fight value enemies, as the skill boost is small and the penalty for succeeding by 0 is painful.
- Beat Cop In combination with Bandages, you can extend the number of times you can ping an enemy for 1 testless damage.
Investigating
- "Look what I found!" Originally, I had both Flashlight and Old Keyring in the deck, the idea being "fight with events, investigate with hand assets". However, in Marion "Look what I found!" is basically an Old Keyring on steroids: for 1 more resource you get the same result (2 guaranteed clues at -2 test difficulty) but fast and triggering your investigator ability.
- Old Keyring Preferred over Flashlight due to the "spend charge only on success" and good synergy with "Look what I found!" to tackle high shroud locations.
- True Awakening Probably a staple in Marion. For 0 resource, draw 2 cards + get a free clue + trigger your investigator ability. Sick.
Economy
- Resources are covered by Emergency Cache and Stand Together.
- Card draw is covered by your investigator ability and True Awakening.
Encounter Protection
The main weaknesses of this deck are in fact handled by your teammates:
- Treachery protection is covered by Sister Mary who can control the mythos phase.
- Horror protection is covered by Carolyn Fern who has multiple options to heal horror.
Other notable card choices
- Wolf Mask provides a much needed skill boost in the level 0 deck where fight events don't boost skill value. Less relevant as the deck upgrades, can be upgraded into Ace of Swords.
- A Glimmer of Hope Multiple uses for this one. Can boost skill value (especially useful for level 0 fight events and for Brand of Cthugha), can be used as discard fodder for "I'll do it myself", and having these in your discard makes sure you always have a target to use your investigator ability on.
- Hunter's Mark A nice upgrade to Vicious Blow in Marion. As pinging enemies for 1 damage is already covered by Beat Cop, I included a single copy to be used during a boss fight for the persistent skill boost.
- Resourceful To complete the 5 survivor card slots. Can target "Look what I found!", Old Keyring and Bandages.
