This is the Zoey deck I took for a spin tonight. I'm really happy with how she performed, and feel she is maybe waiting for a wider pool of cards before can develop in other directions. I based this on my Good Friend Angedelo's deck, with a few tweaks based on what I saw of it as we were playing.
This is a build designed for multiplayer, with very little clue support (just Drawn to the Flame and Evidence!). Her strength is clearly fighting and in pulling enemies away from other investigators!
I find she has time to build up a good board state early on, then spends the later game moving from enemy to enemy and chopping them up with her machete. Her Resource level tends to fluctuate during the game; money flows in from engaging enemies, and then out again through Physical Training or into her Axe. If she's ever flush with cash, she can always drop some Dynamite to clear out a room of enemies!
Looking back, I think the only card which didn't necessarily pull its weigh was Evidence. I don't know if this was just the particular scenarios, or the teams, or the luck of the draw, but I'd maybe look at cutting this for some XP heavy cards down the line.
Anyway, I had some success with it so wanted to share to see what everyone else thinks!
Some thoughts on particular cards
This is a really good card for Zoey. If fits in every which way; it's low cost, meaning she can play it even after pumping money into a Blast, her Axe or Physical Training. It lets her find clues (even through a Shroud or locked door!) despite her pitiful Intellect of 2. And it lets her dig deep into the Encounter deck, which she is very well placed to handle with a Willpower of 4 and a selection of Combat cards.
This card has really surprised me. Not only do I almost always find a use for it when I draw it, but I often sit looking at a situation thinking that a Taunt will be able to get us out of it. At its very basic it's an action saved, but it is maybe best used to quickly pull enemies off other investigators while still being able to attack multiple times. A surprise hit with me!
I threw this in as an extra weapon over Elusive. It's cheap and it can get the job done in a pinch. It's also lovely and thematic for a Zoey deck! In one game I pulled this and Zoey's Cross on the first turn, and they were the only Assets I played all game. I was constantly dropping money to keep my Axe sharp, then relying on low cost cards like Taunt, Shortcut, Drawn to the Flames and all the Skills. I'm not sure on it from a strictly efficient point of view, but it is damn fun.
Experience
For upgrades, the obvious first choices are Beat Cop and Taunt upgrades. Beyond that... I'm not sure. Police Badge may work well though it is competing for a slot with her Cross, which I would probably always try and install.
From upcoming cards, Stand Together seems like a great card for her as she's often in the thick of the action, protecting the other players. I can also see a Keen Eye build with her popping up to work with the Fire Axe...
