Just sharing what my deck looked like at the end of my recently completed Carcosa solo campaign, as well as a little on how the final scenario went down.
I wanted to do it especially since it's a Marie deck, following recent data from u/acotgreave over on reddit revealing Marie to be the least popular investigator on this website, although I'm sure that's more to do with people not owning her cards and being unwilling to proxy than not liking her. She is by far the best Mystic, in my opinion.
As a personal aside I do wish more people would publish final decks, as I find them more useful than the 0 xp ones.
I was playing the v.1 version of this scenario (the Tattered King), which is my favourite from a storytelling perspective.
Note that Working a Hunch was added specifically for this scenario, paying 2 xp to do so, replacing Magnifying Glass.
Having been defeated in the first 2 scenarios I had 1 mental and 1 physical trauma, which in addition to the horror you are dealt at the start of the scenario left me with only 3 remaining sanity. I also had only 2 stranger tally marks so started with 3 doom, but I really don't think chasing the stranger is important.
So I sat at the starting location drawing cards and playing assets till I had all the key cards I needed in my hand or in play. I was assaulted by a Screeching Byakhee in turn 2 or 3 but luckily I already had Shards of the Void in play and quickly took it down.
I then headed straight for Palace of the King, picked up 2 of the 3 clues there, and was forced to immediately spend them to spawn The Man in the Pallid Mask.
Next turn I spent 3 actions to defeat The Man in the Pallid Mask and gain The Pallid Mask, reducing me to 1 remaining sanity, although I did have a bit of soak left on Holy Rosary and Dr. Milan Christopher.
Hastur also spawned, and as this was now the enemy phase he immediately attacked me, which I canceled with Hypnotic Gaze.
In the following turn I simply hit Hastur 3 times with Shrivelling, shored up with Blood Pact (which Marie loves), knocking off all his health. All my copies of Time Warp and Counterspell were ready to go but it turned out I didn’t need any of them, drawing only numbered tokens.
I also played Working a Hunch to snatch the last clue from under the Tattered King’s feet, flipped the location to discover the secret, and that was it.
I’m a big fan of Marie and despite already having played her a fair bit I’m considering taking her through The Circle Undone. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what cards she’ll get out of the cycle, there’s a lot of scope for doing funky stuff with doom.

Jan 29, 2019Do you think Fingerprint Kit or Winging It work in this deck? While her ability is strong, i think her downsides are too much.

As regards her doom, sure, it can be risky. But the Mystic class is built on the concept of high risk/reward, doom is just her particular niche. Moonlight Ritual is really the only doom management player card we have (so concern over deck space currently seems unnecessary), but maybe when we do get some more of them players such as yourself will feel more comfortable playing her. |
Jan 29, 2019I should've been more detailed about the doom issue. Blood Pact certainly works when you have Moonlight Ritual, but what todo when you don't draw it? Don't use her ability or risk advancing the agenda too early? For this case i'm tempted to add more managable doom cards, like Arcane Initiate and maybe David Renfield. Then use each other or any allies to remove them + their doom or add Calling in Favors. Or Forbidden Knowledge. These are all good cards on their own, but too many assets slow you down and might not work with your deck strategy. |
Hi, could you tell the upgrade order please?. Im curious if the shards is First priority or not.
Thanks
