This is my first time playing Mark Harrigan so I copy a new deck from Silverthorn's "Mark Harrigan Solo Dunwich Legacy deck" to find out how well he will be in Dunwich.
This is not my first time playing the Dunwich Campaign so I know a few things but not a whole lot. So wish me luck.
First, I choose to play Extracurricular Activities. Gathering clues was hard as Mark is not very adept in investigating. However, the Flashlight helps a lot. I use the Machete for the entire scenerio and it is very good. Combined with Evidence!, I have another way to find clues quite easily.
I also get to encounter 2 Yithian Observer and defeat them for EXP.
Finally, I choose to fight The Experiment as fighting is more suitable with Mark Harrigan. Dynamite Blast and Vicious Blow clutch for me the victory and I end the scenerio with the R3 with total 5 EXP.
I spend 4 EXP to upgrade 2 Beat Cop. I have 1 EXP left to keep for later.
I went into "The house always wins" with the target of rescuing Peter Clover to get the mafia off my back later
Despite the incredible luck of pulling a at the Clover Club Cardroom, I failed to rescue Peter Clover due to the continuos barrage of enemy that I pull from the encounter deck. I even have to use up all the bullet from the .32 Colt and have to equip a new one due to the fear of more enemy. Luckily, I found the Back Alley to resign and avoid being unconcious for several hours. Therefore, R1 is the result that I got.
I receive 1 EXP from the Clover Club Pit Boss, 1 EXP from Back Alley and 1 EXP from the R1 resolution. Now I have in total 4 EXP.
After the Interlude I, I decide to put in [Dr. Henry Armitage](/card/02040 into the deck.
I also buy upgrade for the Emergency Cache with 4 EXP. Now I have no EXP left.
The next scenerio is the Miskatonic Museum. I don't remember much about this one but I do know my Knowledge test is very crucial. Let's hope for some luck.
The scenerio Miskatonic Museum starts with us trap outside, and in that location we cannot gain resourse. Thus, I choose to break down the door with the 5 Strength that Mark has. I am also lucky enough to find the Machete and Flashlight early on.
The Hunting Horror seems like an awful opponent with its regeneration and growing strength. However, I pull a lot of Encounter cards that restrict movement or investigation like Obscuring Fog, Locked Door, and worst of all, Arcane Barrier due to Mark's 3 Mind. Another Encounter which is a pain is Visions of Futures Past. Honestly I just dont try to win that one. In the end, Hunting Horror becomes a relatively easy opponent and I even glad to find him to use him as a source of healing and clue gainning with Evidence! and "If it bleeds...".
I also choose to keep the The Necronomicon due to its amazing effect of gaining 2 new resources which will add an Tenticle token to the Chaos Bag.
I also gain 2 EXP from investigating Medusa Exhibit and Restricted Hall.
I went in The Essex County Express without upgrading anything. The scenerio was overall peaceful thanks to the Machete and The Necronomiconthat I added from last time. I had enough tools and weapons to breeze through without much issue.
I also got 3 EXP from Emergent Monstrosity and the train cabins. So now I have total 5 EXP.
I will use 4 EXP to upgrade 2 Vicious Blow to level 2.
I now have 1 EXP left in total.
I went into Blood on The Altar quite confidently, but I soon realize I have to investigate a lot, which is not Mark's strong point. At one point, I decide that to investigate successfully reliably, I need to up by 3 or more. Therefore, I use Mark signature ability twice each time I do. This leads to me having an entire turn just draw cards to find healing, because I do not want to be on the other side of Sophia.
With great luck, I only need to investigate fully 2 locations to get to The Hidden Chamber, which is mininal. This sounds like I cheated, but I didn't.
Anyways, Silas Bishop is big, and I was not in good health due to all that investigating. But during the turns I was drawing for healing, I found 2 Dynamite Blast. And with The Necronomicon in hand, I just leave The Hidden Chamber, used The Necronomicon to add resources and used 2 Dynamite Blast until it is dead. Kinda cheesy, I know but there is no way I can investigate 9 clues at that location. Thus I reached R1.
So finally, finishing this campaign, I got 2 EXP from The HIdden Chamber, 2 EXP from defeating Silas Bishop, 2 EXP from the R1.
Sadly, Dr. Francis Morgan was sacrificied during the scenerio.
With this, at the end of the scenerio, I have the total of 7 EXP.
During the Prelude "The Survivors", I had Dr. Henry Armitage so I get to add the Powder of Ibn Ghazi to the deck for the next scenerio. And since only 1 was sacrificed, Powder of Ibn Ghazi will have 4 charges when I first put it in play.
I also had to randomly put in Paranoia, one of the worst Basic Weakness in the game due to its terrifying effect.
I went into the campaign thinking I could use Mark's strength to fight the Brood of Yog-Sothoth. However I was sorely mistaken, they needed a certain scenerio item to defeat them. And at one point, a Brood of Yog-Sothoth got boosted twice due to the Encounter deck. Luckily, I had enough clue from the locations and Powder of Ibn Ghazi to put 2 of them to rest (only 1 was sacrificed so only 2 needed to be killed).
I end the scenerio quite quickly which shows how important the ending of the last scenerio can impact this one. Which is kinda scary.
Now I just went straight to Where Doom Awaits to finish the campaign.
Well the scenerio went badly and I failed due to the Beyond the Veil. I didn't have anything to soak that much damage so I fail. And this scenerio is required you to investigate, which is not Mark's strength. So I fail.
Quite a rollercoaster of a campaign if you ask me. Some feels like a walk in a park, some is just a brick wall.
I feel that Mark can do this but just need better card collection. I only had 2 Core Sets and everything in this campaign expansion and packs (I bought the Expansion set and all the Packs, not the new Expansion box).
After reading and watching videos online, I found out that in this campaign, you have to prepare properly for Beyond the Veil. Because it is one of the cards that can intantly end your scenerio, and failing certain scenerios badly can gradually snowball into a terrible situation in following scenerios.
