DECK FOCUS

This deck's cornerstone is Cornered. This allows you to discard a card to get a +2 to any skill test, essentially turning any card in your hand into a Unexpected Courage.

This card combos very nicely with the "Improvised" set of cards: Improvised Weapon, Impromptu Barrier, & Winging It. This allows you to discard them to Cornered for a solid +2 bonus. After being discarded, you can reuse them from your discard pile for their larger effect, which shuffles them back into your deck allowing them to be drawn again!

Since you'll be running all 6 of the "Improvised" cards, it rounds out Rita's skill set. Along with the obvious evade prowess, she becomed a competent clue finder & damage dealer.

COMBAT

Rita has 5, so you'll likely take the role of designated evader of enemies. With Rita Young's ability, Peter Sylvestre, & Track Shoes, I don't need to include many other cards focused on evading because she is just so good at it.

Early Campaign

Her 3 is decent. The +2 from Baseball Bat or Gravedigger's Shovel are Rita's best way of dealing damage before she gets Ornate Bow. Improvised Weapon and can fill in the gaps.

If the enemy has a high fight value, it's best just to evade them and ping them with Rita's triggered ability. If they have excessive health, use Waylay.

After Upgrades

Ornate Bow brings Rita's () to 7. This card is vital to this deck. Not only will it be your best defense against the Hoods, it gives Rita more options when engaging enemies.

Ace in the Hole allows for some serious power plays! With Ornate Bow, Rita can deal 10 damage to a single target in one round reliably. 1 damage from Rita's ability as she evades then 9 damage as she shoots the evaded foe (assuming the bow starts the round loaded).

Ace in the Hole also lets Rita get the most out of "I'm done runnin'!".

FINDING CLUES

Even with 2, Rita can be good at finding clues. The goal is to lower the shroud to 0-2 with Winging It so that Lucky!, Live and Learn, and "Look what I found!" always net clues.

Fun combo:

Early Campaign

Flashlight helps lower the shroud to 0-2 range.

Gravedigger's Shovel helps pull clues from high shroud locations.

After Upgrades

After Rita gets her Ornate Bow, the Flashlight competes for the hand slots and should be upgraded immediately into Cornered.

Cornered is the staple of this deck, but I still prefer getting Ornate Bow first, because Hoods is too annoying without it.

PROTECTION

Rita has 9 health, so you will unlikely have any worries even if you get some physical Trama.

Sanity is Rita's Achilles heal. You'll want to make sure get a Cherished Keepsake or Peter Sylvestre gets in play asap. Either can be reclaimed from your discard pile with Resourceful in a pinch.

Meat cleaver?

I've found that you really only need the one weapon slot for Rita & I always upgrade into Ornate Bow early. Meat Cleaver can be a good early campaign weapon for Rita as it only takes one hand slot & doesn't compete with Flashlight. I could see it being better than Baseball Bat my current go to for early campaign damage.

There are two situations where I could see using Meat Cleaver. (1) in Night of the Zealot, where it's important to upgrade into Cornered first since the campaign is so short (2) In Path to Carcosa where there is a lot of Sanity loss. Additionally there are three skulls added to the chaos bag, making it more likely that Baseball Bat breaks.
