Hi everyone!
I started getting more seriously into AH and I'm trying to build nice decks with an incomplete collection (I got Core, Dunwich, Carcosa, Edge of the Earth and Scarlet Keys, starter decks).
I got inspired by Dedalus' Broke-ass Pete deck (https://arkhamdb.com/decklist/view/381/broke-ass-pete-s-spooky-adventure-3.0) and worked a version of the deck that I like and find, so far pretty efficient (I still play standard though, so it might actually be not so hot). So far it defeated Core set quite easily, but it's my "upgrade plan" I'm unsure about. And so... I'd appreciate feedback! Here's a descript of the deck and my thoughts on upgrading.
CLUE GETTING
The dream is to start by putting Dr. Milan Christopher and Magnifying Glass in play for +2 Intellect. This means investigating at 6 using Duke, plus you can buff your stat with Unexpected Courage, Resourceful, Lucky! or Perception.
On top of that, you've got "Look what I found!", Working a Hunch. So far gathering clues has been easy.
FIGHTING
You've got base 4 when Duke attacks, plus the use of Overpower, Resourceful, Unexpected Courage, Lucky!. Also, Will to Survive for when things get serious.
Also, Fire Axe as a backup. I sometimes just dump my resources in it to benefit from Dark Horse's bonus.
SURVIVAL
I find Pete a little fragile and avoid putting damage or horrors on Duke, so Leather Coat, Cherished Keepsake and Peter Sylvestre to soak horrors help a lot.
UPGRADE PLAN
OK... So, I have a few directions I want to take this and not sure what to priorize or if it is all good.
-
Déjà Vu + Leather Coat + Cherished Keepsake. Costly, but gives you much more survivability and you can buy your items back for free from exile.
-
Charisma. Ideally, having Dr. Milan Christopher and Peter Sylvestre into play (even better, the upgraded Peter Sylvestre).
-
Gumption + Plucky. I was thinking of replacing Perception with Gumption, which is more flexible, plus Working a Hunch and maybe Dark Horse for Plucky.
-
Burn After Reading instead of "Look what I found!"... seems more efficient and I can get it back free from Déjà Vu in between games... but each time means 2 exiled cards. Worth it or not?
-
Unexpected Courage, Will to Survive... worth it?
-
Anything obvious I'm missing??
TDLR: unsure what to buy next!
Thanks any and all feedback!
Merry Christmas everyone!

Typically I burn my resources on the endgame with Will to Survive and Fire Axe, so Dark Horse is really more useful then. Might be a mistake on my part but playing without resources seems counterintuitive. Thanks for the suggestion! I never thought of Scavenging 2, might be much easier than what I'd planned. Thanks a lot, exactly the kind of feedback that helps! |

You're missing only Drawing Thin, but since you planned to use Fire Axe anyway, you don't miss that point :) So some choices to consider:
In general I think you're missing damage output (assuming this deck is for solo). If you have a fighter in your team, you should be a very good clue-leaning flex. |

The Level 0 deck seems like a Dark Horse build on the asset side but not on the event side. I’m not saying it’s all or nothing, but I wonder if you’ve ever gotten DH to fire.
As for upgrades, I’d take Lvl 2 Scavenging over the Deja Vu package to cycle the Lvl 0 Coats and Keepsakes endlessly.
