Overview
My idea for this deck was a poor librarian has a chance encounter with a rich patron (David Renfield), who takes her under his wing and funds her further education. She goes to school (Higher Education) and majors in Arcane Studies (Shrivelling, Hypnotic Gaze, Mists of R'lyeh). Daisy can pass as a mystic, but she needs to spend twice the amount of time in a library as an Akachi or Agnes would, burying her head in her textbooks (Book of Shadows and Old Book of Lore) for hours on end.
Earning 8 XP in The Gathering is generally pretty easy, especially with access to Delve Too Deep. I took Higher Education as my first upgrade, and it helped a ton in the last scenario. The Midnight Masks was a NIGHTMARE. I didn't get a single cultist. NOT. A. SINGLE. ONE. With only 1 XP, I bought Book of Shadows. Daisy is not a fan. 1 out of 5 stars. Thankfully, I was able to have two copies of Shrivelling out in the last scenario, with a Holy Rosary and tons of resources to pump Higher Education. Daisy was able to take down Umordhoth while dodging his attacks with Hypnotic Gaze. I always feel bad playing the last scenario the "janky" way, but there was no way I was going to be able to deal with 6 cultists at once, so I had to do what I had to do!
For a less traditional, more spell-oriented/resource-heavy Daisy, give this decklist a shot!
Highlights
- Old Book of Lore - Daisy always had this on her. Its her favorite. 5 out of 5 stars.
- Holy Rosary - Its cheap, its a permanent willpower boost, and you don't feel bad losing it to a Crypt Chill. It's been one of my favorite mystic cards since day 1.
- David Renfield - David is awesome for several reasons. He's cheap. He nets more resources than Dr. Milan Christopher would after the taboo list. His doom is easy to clear with Lita Chantler, Calling in Favors, or Moonlight Ritual. You'll have +1 will for most of the game from him.
- Higher Education - Yeah everyone knows how great this card is already. This is my first time paying 8XP for it. It felt a lot more rewarding to win the campaign with that extra cost added in.
- Hypnotic Gaze - Best card in this deck? Cancelled 6 damage in the last scenario. Daisy has 5 health. Nuff said.
Lowlights/Meh
- Book of Shadows - I gave it a shot. It wasn't needed. I probably won't be trying it again for a while.
- Arcane Studies - Why do you have this with Higher Education in your deck your probably asking. I was expecting to earn more than 1 XP in Scenario 2, but the mythos had other plans. So this got stuck in there. (I removed Delve Too Deep) after Scenario 2, as I should have.)
- Painkillers - With Hypnotic Gaze, this may have been overkill. But I like that the healing doesn't cost an action. Idk. I also feel like Daisy would be straightedge/drug-free.
- Daisy's Tote Bag - Such a silly card. Used it for two will icons every scenario I think.
- Inquiring Mind - Daisy is a vacuum cleaner with the clues, especially when running 2 copies of Drawn to the Flame. There were so many times that this card was sitting in my hand without any clues in sight. Very frustrating when it happens.

Sep 04, 2019Were Painkillers useful? Daisy's whopping nine sanity looks good on paper, but the combination of Necronomicon, Shrivelling, and Painkillers would quickly eat away that sanity, to the point where she would be better off taking damage over horror. |
Sep 04, 2019No they were not. Hypnotic Gaze and Lita Chandler we’re both more valuable damage avoiders/soaks. I would definitely take them out if I played this deck again. When I’ve played Daisy before, Grasping Hands was the treachery that kept screwing me over. I probably should’ve just included some Manual Dexteritys in there instead of the Painkillers. Also, I hardly ever take horror from the Necronomicon with this deck. I just keep it in my hand with the Old Book of Lore in the other and take the extra autofail token in stride. I may change my mind if the weakness showed up earlier on in a scenario, but it never did in this playthrough. |
Sep 12, 2019Regarding The Necronomicon: use Protective Incantation to seal ? |
I'm currently using a Daisy deck with Renfield (and Mr. Rook) and Shrivelling and I'm running 2 copies of Moonlight Ritual and Calling in Favors and I have to say you just get filthy rich. You get so much money that even pre-taboo Milan can't earn! It's working great and I recommend to anyone to try it!
