This deck is based on Scavenging and Backpack to always have cards to commit. It should be the primary clue gatherer, to trigger Scavenging each turn. Once the combo is ready, you can support your team pretty well by commiting items to any test. This deck has no option.
Basic Strategy
- Play Magnifying Glasses and Dr. Milan Christopher to max your
- Commit any other item so skill checks
- Use Scavenging to recover these items, preferably with ? symbol
- Use tutor cards (No Stone Unturned, Eureka!) to search for missing combo pieces
- Cards below Backpack cannot be commited. The idea is to discard it and return them to your hand with Scavenging.
- Play Backpack with as many items as possible, preferably with ? symbols
- Try to discard backpack by playing Leather Coat, Fine Clothes or another Backpack. All discarded items can be recovered with Scavenging
- Recover Backpack with Scavenging and play it again to get more items into your discard pile to commit
- Fine Clothes, Cherished Keepsake and Leather Coat can be played if you need soaks
Starting Hand
- Scavenging
- Magnifying Glass, Dr. Milan Christopher
- Backpack
- Tutor cards to search for any of the above
Upgrades
- Strange Solution should not be upgraded. The ? is for commiting, unless your team needs more options. Also see section "Variations".
- Higher Education so you need boosts less often and can use ressources from milan
- No Stone Unturned 0 -> No Stone Unturned 5
- Shortcut -> Pathfinder
- Deduction 0 -> Deduction 2
- Lucky! -> Flare to get Dr. Milan Christopher out quicker
- Fine Clothes -> Disc of Itzamna as it has better icons for committing
- Eureka! -> Cryptic Research
- Lantern -> Newspaper 2 for more icons
- Leather Coat -> Bulletproof Vest more
- Cherished Keepsake -> Elder Sign Amulet more
Variations
- If you need options, you should replace Fine Clothes with Fire Axe and Lantern with "I've got a plan!"
- Be aware that Dr. Milan Christopher ressource is optional. You don't have to take it, to keep the axe's +1 damage active.
- In this case you should definately upgrade to Acidic Strange Solution.
- Get the Bulletproof Vest earlier, for boost.
- You can add Dark Horse for boosting all stats (remove Fine Clothes). All assets you will ever play are pretty cheap, costing 0-2 ressources except Dr. Milan Christopher. But if you draw the horse before the insecticist consider if you really need him.
- Should you have both in play, never take the ressource from Dr. Milan Christopher. With Dark Horse he only serves as boost.

Jun 18, 2018I'm playing a similar deck with a custom character in a 4 player group and it's working great, if you get Dr. Milan Christopher and Scavenging out early. Just don't forget, 80% of the items are for commiting, not playing! If you did, that would really slow you down. |
Jun 19, 2018I'm not quite sure I get it. You only need 1 item to recycle with scavenging as long as it's a rabbit's foot, strange solution (0), or maybe a bulletproof vest or Newspaper (2) or something later on. I don't feel like you need this many items to make this strategy work. |

Jun 19, 2018IIRC you can only play the cards from the Backpack and they cannot be committed to skills. |
Jun 19, 2018Just confirmed it under the Backpack reviews... |
Jun 19, 2018I never said that you could. But you can discard the Backpack (by playing another body slot item, treacheries,...) and return any of the discarded items to your hand, including the backpack (which you can play again). |
Jun 20, 2018I must have misread your post. My apologies. I'm not sure the Backpack angle is required - you're already playing 16 items (though, granted, only Rabbit's Foot and Strange Solution has the ? icon) Seems overkill. Also, giving up Strange Solution upgrades is a pain. |
Jun 20, 2018No problem, i will make this clearer in deck description. Thanks for pointing out. I think the deck could be optimised by replacing 2-4 items with non item cards, like Fine Clothes with Resourceful to play Lucky! more often. I'm not saying this deck is perfect, it's just a different approach to minh. There's already a lot of skill based decks for her around arkhamdb, that work wonderfully. Yesterday i experimented with cards from "Threads of fate" and noticed rex may be able to do this even better, using Lucky Cigarette Case. As item it can be searched with Backpack and it's draw helps with anythiny else. |
Jun 20, 2018Addes sections "Variations" if combat options are required. |
I appreciate the build. Its an idea I think that should work fine on paper and might even be really good once the game grows a bit more and we get better items in Neutral, Survivor and Seeker.
I have to ask how you feel about tempo when playing some of these? It seems like it would be a little slow, but maybe it is just me not having played backpacks enough.
