Introduction:

If you haven't tasted the power of yet, or find that they lack diversity, Akachi is the One(yele) you were waiting for. She is simple, straightforward and strong. Her card pool offers access to exciting cards, and the introduction of the Synergy trait adds a layer of fun to this Deck.

After the warm welcome of the Beginner Decks made for Zoey, Rex, Jenny, Jim and Pete, I decided to go for a last Series of Beginner Deck Guides for The Path to Carcosa.

Find the other Carcosa Beginner Decks:
Mythos Busting Mark
Scavenge-Minhg
Sefine-Art Black Magic Painter
Yorick Gold Digger
• I decided not to propose a Deck for Lola Hayes on purpose as even with the help of the community, we couldn't find any Deck that made us feel like you wouldn't regret playing any other investigator instead. If she piqued your curiosity, keep her in a corner of your mind until you have a bit more cards.

Overview:

Difficulty: ★★☆☆☆
Enemy Management: ★★★★★
Clue-getting: ★★★★☆
Encounter protection: ★★★★☆
Survivability: ★★★☆☆
Economy: ★★★☆☆
Card Drawing: ★★★☆☆

Main Strategy:

• Use your high and additional Charges from your passive to get the best out of your Spells.

• Use the 5 elements to gain insane value out of Close the Circle and Call for Backup.

• Use the Dragon Pole for an extra Spell slot and a backup weapon for lower fight enemies and conserving charges.

• Use your Signature Spirit-Speaker to refill your empty Spells.

The 3 Different Spell Routes:

"Fly, if you value your foul skin! I will shrivel you from tail to snout, if you come within this ring."

The 5 Elements Archmage:

This Deck masters all 5 elements: .

Rite of Seeking turns into Divination (4) and Shrivelling into Brand of Cthugha (4). This is the best build for True Solo.

•• With these 2 cards, The Green Red Clock and Prophetic, you have the 5 elements available for Close the Circle that comes in play with 6 additional actions and Call for Backup to heal your teammates, and gain tempo over the Mythos.

•• You can use the charge on Close the Circle during any player window, which includes evading a Hunter enemy just after it moves to your location and engages you. Also, remember that you do not need to use your during this action. You can simply move or play an asset. This additional action is subject to Attacks of Opportunity though.

•• We prefer the Brand of Cthugha (4) as it still boosts your synergy cards even if Prophetic is buried deep. It is cheaper to reload with Spirit-Speaker and less damaging to lose charges because of Angered Spirits. To balance out the negative aspect, Dragon Pole can take care of the first actions, mainly thanks to the boost of The Red Clock for your first test, and then use Brand of Cthugha (4) for the finish.

•• Thanks to your built-in Reload Engine, this Deck is exceptionally versatile and will make both and jealous because you'll be better at their job than the both of them combined.

The full offensive Battlemage:

• You upgrade your Shrivelling to (5) and Rite of Seeking into Brand of Cthugha (4). With the Dragon Pole, you have enough output to be the boss-killer of your group easily.

•• Both Shrivelling (5) and the Brand of Cthugha (4) can deal 3 damages reliably. It is good to alternate their uses to decrease the risk: prefer the Brand at the end of your turn and Shrivelling if you still have good sanity. To save Charges and finish off enemies with 2hp, you always have your Dragon Pole, and 1 damage can always be done with Close the Circle.

•• This leads you to anything between 7 and 10 damage per turn.

The Divination Master:

• Rite of Seeking upgrades in Rite of Seeking (4) and Shrivelling into Divination (4).

•• This Deck is a monster clue-getter, while still being autonomous thanks to Dragon Pole that allows Akachi Onyele to still deal with the smaller enemies she would draw.

•• Albeit being significantly more expensive, Prophetic, Uncage the Soul and The Red Clock are generating enough resources to pay for it all.

Torrent-Of-Power.png

Every Mage has a Staff:

"Did I not counsel you, lord, to forbid her staff?"

The Dragon Pole can be put to good use in Akachi Onyele not only for the extra Arcane Slot, but since she has 3 base she can fight up to 6 with 3 spells on the table. On top of this, we also have multiple ways to bring this score much higher:

• Overpower, Unexpected Courage obviously.

The Red Clock can bring you +3 to your first attack if you time it correctly. Unfortunately, the lvl 2 is a bit clunky, forcing you first to collect the resources and only the turn after you can get the +3 .

•• Note that this +3 is not bound to time, so it stays until you pass a test and even stacks if you happen to do the first thick twice without any test in between.

•  Torrent of Power can be used to boost any Spell as well as your Mage Staff. The potential targets are Alchemical Transmutation, Brand of Cthugha (better to use one of its charges to deal 2 damage), Close the Circle or even the The Red Clock to bring it back to 0 and benefit from +3 at the beginning of the next turn or bring it back to 2 to get another additional action next turn!

• Blood Pact that you can use either if you have Moonlight Ritual in your hand and more than 4 Doom to go or during the last Round of the Agenda for +3 at each test you perform (could be 4 fight actions if you timed the The Red Clock correctly).

Speaking to the Spirits:

What makes Akachi Onyele so potent is her Signature: Spirit-Speaker. It doesn't sound strong, but trust me, it is addictive.

• Use it to recharge any of your Spells using 1 action and its cost. The cost is absorbed by Prophetic, Uncage the Soul, or your resources and the action is fine since Spells come with a great built-in action acceleration. Emptied your Brand of Cthugha (4)? How about reloading it entirely for 2 resources and 1 action? This is such an increase in the value of your high XP Spells.

• Join the Dark Side of the Force and make $$$. You are unlikely to use this ability of your Signature, but it can come in handy, for instance, by using the last charges of any Spell to pay for Storm of Spirits. Once you have Spirit-Speaker, Alchemical Transmutation turns into an Emergency Cache that commits for a if you don't need it. Brand of Cthugha (4) brings you 10 resources for a starting cost of 2, so 8 net profit, making your Rogue and their fancy Hot Streak green with jealousy.

Other Cards:

Level 0 Cards:

Holy Rosary fits perfectly here to absorb the damage from Shrivelling while also boosting your main stat: .

• Arcane Initiate that you can play either before the Agenda advances or that you clean with Moonlight Ritual (which is a Spell so the Initiate can find it) helps you to tutor your most important cards.

•• Once you have Charisma, you can have both Arcane Initiate on the table at the same time since she's not unique. Congratulations, you are now the teacher of a School of Magic.

• Delve Too Deep, because everyone loves XP, so if you can bring more to your party, why wouldn't you? Plus, you are naturally talented at dealing with the Encounter Deck.

• Moonlight Ritual as said before to clean the Arcane Initiate and Blood Pact.

• Storm of Spirits is also a nice fighting Spell that is terrific when there are more than 2 enemies at your location. The higher the player count, the better. The hefty cost is covered by Prophetic.

• Ward of Protection of course to prevent Ancient Evils from ruining your well-prepared plans.

Level 1-5 Cards:

• Close the Circle is a powerhouse in this deck to pass any scenario tests like Parleys, tests on locations, treachery cards, and anything else. For 1 Action to play it, you gain 5 net actions. And what's best? You can refill it at will.

• Prophetic is obvious in this Deck: either pay for the Spells directly or boost your hard test. Why would you lose 2 actions with Brand of Cthugha (4) if you could instead boost yourself up high enough not to take any risk?

• The Red Clock (2) is fun and brings a bit of variety to the often linear Mystic gameplay, introducing a chess-like feeling to the game. You now have to think ahead: when will I need resources, a bonus on my Dragon Pole or , will there be a time when I will need to move across the map, how about an extra action to refill an empty Spell? No matter what you get, it's always welcome.

Carcosa-Akachi.png

Upgrade Path:

For this upgrade path, I will focus on the Synergy build that is, to me, the most optimised one:

Alchemical Transmutation x2 Brand of Cthugha (1) x2 - 2xp - Total 2xp

•• More combat Spells, and more charges to spend for other uses.

Guts x2 Prophetic x2 - 6xp - Total 8xp

•• Pay for your Spells and get a welcome boost for them.

Holy Rosary x1 The Red Clock (2) x1 + Relic Hunter x1 - 7xp - Total 15xp

•• Offers a nice boost, especially for your Dragon Pole when you have 1 charge and some resources, as well as a Asset.

Rite of Seeking x2 Divination (1) x2 - 2xp - Total 17xp

•• Cheaper, more flexible Spell that offers a little boost and a Asset.

Shrivelling x2 Close the Circle x2 - 2xp - Total 19xp

•• By this time, you have Assets from every class, guaranteeing you a fantastic use of Close the Circle, especially for Scenario Tests.

Delve Too Deep x2 Call for Backup x2 - 4xp - Total 23xp

•• Since you now have the 5 elements represented in your Deck, this card can really bring wicked value to your team.

Brand of Cthugha x2 Brand of Cthugha (4) x2 - 6xp - Total 29xp

•• Fight bigger enemies faster, with a greater boost and more charges.

• Blood Pact x1 - 3xp - Total 32xp

Now that enemies tend to be beefier, the test really helps the Dragon Pole.

Divination (1) x2 Divination (4) x2 - 6xp - Total 38xp

•• More clues for the same price. It's always good to gain tempo over the Mythos.

• Charisma x1 - 3xp - Total 41xp

•• Now that you purchased your expensive Spells, 2 Arcane Initiate are ideal to find them as quick as possible.

Make your own Deck!:

• I know that Akachi Onyele's passive brings more value to Shrivelling and Rite of Seeking since you get more value out of their Charges. I decided to go this way to mitigate the negative impact of Angered Spirits, to leverage the Synergy allowed by the Deck, and simply because it already performs above expectations like this. You are free to try to upgrade the Deck using Shrivelling (5) and Divination (4) for roughly similar results or even choose Rite of Seeking (4).

If you have access to Jacqueline Fine, the only real change I would make is to replace Rite of Seeking with Clairvoyance and maybe add Fearless.

If you are playing this Deck with the others of the series and only 1 collection, here is a proposed way to distribute the overlapping cards for each investigator:

Mythos Busting Mark|One Collection Variant: 0xp Deck / Full XP Deck

Scavenge-Minhg|One Collection Variant: 0xp Deck / Full XP Deck

Sefine-Art Black Magic Painter|One Collection Variant: 0xp Deck / Full XP Deck

Akachi Ony-Elemental Mage|One Collection Variant: 0xp Deck / Full XP Deck

Yorick Gold Digger|One Collection Variant: 0xp Deck / Full XP Deck

• If you do not mind proxying a few cards, the ones that could definitely bring added value to this Deck are:

•• Sign Magick (3) instead of Dragon Pole at one point of the campaign for acceleration.

•• Wish Eater instead of the last Holy Rosary standing for getting advantage of the enemies you heal.

Thanks for the great guide. For some reason the full xp deck link doesn't' work for me though.

Thanks @mattyc4065, and let me know if you try it out!!

Well spotted for the Full XP deck my apologies. I just updated the link :)

Gonna try this for my night off the zealot run, going to teach two noobs. I was looking for a flex, and this guide is really well made! I didn't think akachi could be interesting, except for the "look at all my relic slots" build I've seen on here with the new tarot.

Anyways, this looks fun with the synergy, and looks simple enough that I can focus on teaching rather than on thy complicated decks I normally love running.

Great job <3

May 30, 2022 Valentin1331 · 67330

Thanks a lot @FlarkeFiasco, I hope you will have fun with this deck and please come back to comment to let me know how it went!

I have to admit that out of the 5 decks, this one was the least triggering to start but it actually tuned out to be one of the most fun to play especially after 15xp and it ended being one of my favourite of the series, with Sefina that unfortunately didn’t seem that appreciated so far but maybe later when more people receive the box!

Jun 01, 2022 FlarkeFiasco · 1

I'm sad night of the zealot doesn't have enough xp to make use of the synergy cards, really, so I might take a different upgrade path :/

In any case, after playing the level 0 deck once (which admittedly isn't very different from any other akachi decks), and then thinking about the upgrade paths, this deck really exemplifies incidental buffing. Akachi has largely been the same since she came out. A few things here or there.

Now, with red clock, dragon pole, prophetic, the synergy cards, the new divination and cthugha spells (which are better for her than the older spells imo), she really comes into a nice space.

And here I thought Ursula was arguably the most buffed by edge of the earth cards, but akachi sure has some compelling changes from that set.

I think this deck shows off some pieces of edge of the earth that are hard to show off!

Sure, I've played a synergy Lola Hayes (better than you think), and I've always looked at cards like prophetic (and the other ones), and felt they're a little tough to just throw into a deck. But here, it all works great. And feels very natural and fluid, rather than "I'm making a synergy deck".

I think the devs would be very happy to see how you've given akachi these tools so organically, as they probably weren't thinking specifically about her for any of this.

Nice build, really. I'm gonna play this again through an 8 mission campaign, I like it that much (and I never replay builds lol). I'm just gonna be sad when I get to the end of night of the zealot and realize I'm only halfway to completing the build haha.

If you are playing with your Sefina Rousseau deck and one single collection, how would you recommend allocating Rite of Seeking?

Jun 23, 2022 Straps · 1

Please pardon the double-comment but I have put together the Path to Carcosa deck series with one collection and found the following overlaps not already mentioned in a “Make your own Deck!” section

Akachi Onyele & Sefina Rousseau: Rite of Seeking, Delve Too Deep, & Divination (1) Minh Thi Phan & William Yorick: Resourceful, Ice Pick (3), & Strength in Numbers (1)

Jun 23, 2022 Valentin1331 · 67330

Hey @Straps! Thanks for all the feedback and happy that you like the Decks, please come back when you're done to let me know how it went! Make sure that all your friends give a ♥ to the Decks so that they gain visibility :)

Assigning cards is a bit of a mind-bending exercise, so thanks for helping me with this!

Let me know if it works fine, if you have enough Unexpected Courage for everyone if played like this, and I will update my Make your own Deck! parts.

It gets easier if you have the Investigator Packs though since you have Clairvoyance that you can give to Sefina Rousseau.

Jun 23, 2022 Straps · 1

Thank you for the response @Valentin1331! As you intuited, there is indeed a stock issue with Unexpected Courage (even with two Core Sets.)

Akachi Onyele, Mark Harrigan, & William Yorick use two copies in their decklists. The remaining two copies are currently recommended for Minh Thi Phan to replace Mark Harrigan’s Shortcut copies (which will also conflict with your recommendation for Unexpected Courage to replace William Yorick's Resourceful copies.)

Jun 23, 2022 Valentin1331 · 67330

Ok, I needed to see clarity in all this, so I made a list of Decks for each investigator with 0 and 40xp that summarises how I would distribute the cards:

Mythos Busting Mark|One Collection Variant: 0xp Deck / Full XP Deck

Scavenge-Minhg|One Collection Variant: 0xp Deck / Full XP Deck

Sefine-Art Black Magic Painter|One Collection Variant: 0xp Deck / Full XP Deck

Akachi Ony-Elemental Mage|One Collection Variant: 0xp Deck / Full XP Deck

Yorick Gold Digger|One Collection Variant: 0xp Deck / Full XP Deck

I will update all the Deck Guides to include this text, that will be much clearer!

That being said, I never thanked you @FlarkeFiasco for your in-depth comment, I was on holiday and then it slipped out of my mind, sorry! I am really flattered by your comment and I am super happy that you loved the Deck so much! Please come back to let us know how the 8-scenario campaign went!

Jun 25, 2022 Straps · 1

Those independent decklists are quite helpful @Valentin1331! I put together the whole set and am really looking forward to trying them out as well as offering them to choose from on game night. I am happy to say that I had no problems at all putting the decks together but I did want to mention that both Mark Harrigan and William Yorick each have two copies of Vicious Blow, which would be an issue for those with two copies of the non-revised Core Set and contrary to the rest of the design.

I’ll let you know how my experience goes after I’ve put some miles on these decks!

Jun 26, 2022 Valentin1331 · 67330

Alright, my apologies, somehow the lvl 0 Mark Deck was not the latest version of it, I’ve updated it (with Beat Cop and Manual Dexterity).

Excited to know how it went!

Hi there! Thank you so much for your wonderful guides Valentin1331! I am really looking forward to try Akachi your way, with my brother I am planning a blind run on Innsmouth, so Akachi and Trish, wich we both haven't played yet ;-) Please continue with your amazing work, all the best!

Oct 03, 2022 lokipride · 1

Looking forward to get my hands on the next Investigators from Scarlet Keys ;)

Oct 06, 2022 vincentlcvz · 1

Hello , thank you for this deck. i m gonna use it for innsmouth in a 4 players games any tip for the starting hand / mulligan ? thanks

Oct 06, 2022 Valentin1331 · 67330

@founchopf thanks for the amazing message! You must be done by now with your campaign and I hope your brother and you had a great time! Please let me know if you have any feedback!

@vincentlcvz thanks for choosing my deck! I hope you’ll have as much fun as I did playtesting it :) For mulligan, I would recommend shuffling back everything that is not Dragon Pole, Arcane Initiate or Prophetic. And if you do not have any of these, feel free to power draw at the beginning of a scenario until you have at least a way to deal with enemies.

@lokipride soon my friend, very soon. Stay tuned hehe

Oct 07, 2022 founchopf · 2

Hey Valentin! Thank you for your reply, actually we still have Into the Maelstrom to go as we do not see each other ever so often :) But the Akachi deck is a lot of fun to play so far! I would totally agree with you on the Arcane Initiate in the opening hand otherwise drawing into the powerful spells is often difficult. I upgraded into a Relic Hunter and Jewel of Aureolus which triggers very easily with the new Taboo and update on symbol tokens. And this helped an awful lot - of course, only an option if you have the Dunwich cardpool. Very sadly Akachi couldn't take The Red Clock since Trish got her hands on it. And I hesitated to upgrade the Dragon Pole into Sign Magick (3), for my beginnerish playstile, I think it could be too fiddly to get it assembled. Do you have any tips on how to get it happen? And I noticed, that now on scenario 7 and even before, I find it difficult to upgrade further sigh.

Nov 01, 2022 FractalMind · 42

Great deck and write-up. I find I have little time or desire to craft my own decks these days; I just feel overwhelmed with the size of the card pool. With that being said, I really appreciate the effort you put into this and the other decks in the series. Thank you!

Dec 03, 2023 thakaris · 194

IMHO this is the best deck on ArkhamDB hands down. Akashi is absolutely unstoppable, and she down it all, Action compression, fighting, clueing, encounter deck protection, you name it, you get it. This deck is No. 17 in the hall of fame currently, when I write this, but given that there is only one deck out of 2022 ranked higher in ArkhamDB (Rex at 13) says it all. Other deck had 3 or more years of additional time collecting likes.

I run this deck alongside a lot of investigators in almost any champaign this game has to over, and it felt like you switched on the easy mode in any given game. This deck also scales exceptionally well in any given champaign, so it works from 0xp all the way to the the end of any given champaign.

The only real flaw (if there even is any) of this deck might be, that it is not highly specialized in something, so you cannot do something jaw-droopingly good, but you can do absolutely everything this game throughs at you at a 4 out of 5. So if you play alongside another hybrid character that can do it all, this deck is a lot of fun.

Well, maybe the only other flaw it has is, that you had the idea before me :-) so basically when I play ArkhamLCG with this deck and I see the pure awe of the other players, when Akachi does 2 free moves with the red clock, than engages an enemy as a Circle action, defeats that enemy, collects the clues at that location and still has an action left with all tests done even at ridiculous difficulties I have to admit, that it is not my own design but yours :-) Kudos to you for creating this unstoppable juggernaut.

May 20, 2024 Kogami · 40

@Valentin1331 Do you have an updated version of this deck?

May 21, 2024 Valentin1331 · 67330

@Kogami what do you mean with an updated version? This deck was made with a limited collection. Do you mean a version of this deck with a bigger card pool?

@FractalMind Glad you found my work helpful! All my guides are specially made for people like you who love the game but don't always have the time/desire to create their decks :)

@thakaris thanks for the kind words! I had no idea this deck would become so popular when I published it, mainly because Akachi had been the least popular investigator of that set (besides Lola Hayes) and didn't get much recognition before it, often being labelled "The most boring investigator".
After playing with it so much, did you develop any variants, and do you have recommendations for improvements?

May 21, 2024 thakaris · 194

@Valentin1331 well, actually yes, glad you asked :-)

As of now, I am leaving out [Moonlight Ritual](/card/02267) and [Storm of Spirits](/card/03153). Reason being is, that [Moonlight Ritual](/card/02267) at start only has the propose to deal with the [Arcane Initiate](/card/01063) and I found better ways dealing with the doom also so it seemed underpowered. Actually I have never been a fan of [Storm of Spirits](/card/52008). It only is any good if you are swarmed and I try to avoid to be swarmed in the first place. Also I tend to draw autodials on this or at least damage my teammates on the worst possible moment. Skillwise I don't play with [Torrent of Power](/card/03235). It seems a good thematic match for the deck, but actually the deck is about recycling cards with charges so you have a lot of cards to sustain and get the most out of your charges it seems a bit counterintuitive to me to burn charges for skill icons.

This leaves 6 slots in the deck to play with. Depending on the champaign you do, there are some possibilities but as of late I used [Meditative Trance](/card/08061) in Damage/Horror intensive Champaigns, [Deny Existence](/card/05032) is always a good choice. Also [Spectral Razor](/card/06201) to deal with elusive enemies can be a blast in some champaigns or [Read the Signs](/card/06117) to support cluing if no enemy is on the board.

Of course I am using In The Thick Of It - most probably not a big surprise - And I start with 1 [Prophetic](/card/08120) and do a hard Mulligan to search for it. [Prophetic](/card/08120) is so great in this deck, it really makes it shine. I experimented with [Binder's Jar](/card/09089), but it is making the deck to Asset heavy so I stopped doing it. For doom purposes, I fell in love with [Sin-Eater](/card/09094)! As for [Blood Pact](/card/02191), it just removes the doom, it does not benefit from readying or charges, but that is still great. Putting in an [Arcane Initiate](/card/01063), using it twice and eliminating the doom immediately is really great.

May 21, 2024 thakaris · 194

@Valentin1331 almost forgot to mention one very underrated card, at least for this deck: Eldritch Initiation This decks only tutor is the Arcane Initiate and she is limited to spells. There are some cards in this deck though, which are very important to get the engine running but not spells. Namely: Dragon Pole, The Red Clock, Prophetic and Spirit-Speaker as well as the Arcane Initiate herselves. If you draw Eldritch Initiation early and have the Dragon Pole in play without spells, it is 1 penny and one action for 3 cards! Always take that. If you got it later and still missing a vital part of the engine, you may have to discard your additional dragon pole, or an additional spell. There are a lot of cards in the deck, that are includes for consistency, so it should be easy using Eldritch Initiation.

@Valentin1331 Yes, I mean with all the expansion including the Hemlock vale, sorry for the confusion im still new to Arkham Horror. Will do my first full campaign Dunwich Legacy this week. I plan to use this deck with another flex investigator. I wanted to know if there is any improvements I can do if I have all the expasions.
