Subject 5U-21 now also devours skills.... and everything else!!!

Unleash the power of Astronomical Suzi

Suzi

Introduction

The idea for this deck came after the recording of episode T6Ep25 of Los Archivos de Arkham's podcast where we analyzed in detail the Subject 5U-21 and reviewed its different builds based on devouring Assets and recurring Events through the Crystallizer of Dreams.
During that episode the great @Turbinismo commented on the idea of making a Suzi deck with a lot of Skill cards, I don't know why.

But with so many Skill cards in the deck, how could we keep the statline at 6?

Let's see how...

Suzi, the gelatinous sorceress, was fed up with devouring all kinds of Assets: potions, scrolls, and even her own neighbors and friends. And don’t even mention devouring Events! A village festival? Poof! Suzi had already absorbed it out of sheer boredom.

One day, while exploring her magical lab, she stumbled upon an old dusty astronomical atlas. "Well, well! This is new," Suzi thought, excited. The title read: "How to Devour Incredible Skills in Three Easy Steps."

Without a second thought, she opened the book and started devouring magical abilities at an unbelievable speed. Now, besides Events and Assets, Suzi could do amazing things… like floating in the air and turning potatoes into chocolate cakes! For the first time in ages, Suzi wasn’t bored.

And so, the gelatinous sorceress Suzi finally found something worth devouring: fabulous Skills!

The end.

  • Q: Is it a good deck to play with Suzi?
A: No, I don't think so, I don't even think it's the best deck to use this combo. There are infinite combinations that could optimize it.

  • Q: But is it at least a fun deck?
A: No doubt, although all of Suzi's decks are.

  • Q: Why should I try this deck?
A: If you've played a lot of Suzi, you'll be bored of always eating the same assets, and if you've played the Regurgitations loop combo, you have seen the boundary beyond... so why not try something new?

  • Q: Is it legal to devour cards attached to the Atlas?
A: Who knows. But if you can devour Events attached to the Crystallizer, why can't you eat Skills attached to the Atlas? For a deeper discussion, see The Tabors' deck.

From here, we assume that they can be eaten.

Suzy

Main Strategy:
  • 1) Play Astronomical Atlas as soon as possible. Play a second one if possible.
  • 2) Once equipped with the atlases, read them. Attach cards to the atlases and devour one of them at the end of your turn. Save the other for later.
  • 3) Since you will be milling your deck fairly quickly, sooner or later your atlases will find one of your five weaknesses, stopping the milling.
    • Try to put Yaotl into play once you start milling. He will allow you to get rid of annoying weaknesses and from time to time he will help you with some tests.
  • 4) Enjoy.

Make Your Own Deck!

This deck is not particularly refined; I have been taking things from here and there.

  • May I use other weapons?
Go ahead, change the Switchblade for any other weapon, Suzi can carry all of them.

  • May I trade Close the Circle for other more powerful spells?
Sure, Suzi can learn all kind of magic.

  • I want to remove the Skills and put something else in.
Great idea, the deck works perfectly by changing Skills for other cards.

  • Can I still use the Crystallizer to endlessly cycle Regurgitation?
Go on with your life, but if you go down that path you will meet unknowable terrors, take my advice.

Upgrade Path:

Let me say a word or two on this subject. Upgrading Suzi's deck is tricky, because you're only going to upgrade the class of cards you've eaten the most.

Tip: Save a Regurgitation for the very end if you can, so you can return one or two Pelt Shipment to your hand and remove the devoured cards from the class you don't want to upgrade.

After that, the rest of the upgrades are circumstantial and not crucial. Below the table is a second one of possible upgrades for different classes.

As I said before, I have not made this deck optimal at all, it is intended more as a conceptual design. Feel free to comment on suggested improvements and modifications. I would be happy to see your ideas around this concept.

Note: I can not find anywhere in the rules or faqs a clear definition supportimg that facedow attached cards are out-of-play, so I asked FFG Rules Specialist. Here is the answer:

"No and no; cards attached facedown are not considered in play, and facedown cards attached to assets cannot be discarded via Crypt Chill or devoured by Subject 5U-21."

So you know, if you want to play this way do it, I encourage you to at least try it. But until the designers say otherwise, devouring facedown attached cards is illegal.
