Hello everyone,
I want to build a Carolyn Fern deck as a cluever: The goal is to use Fingerprint Kit on high shroud locations for extra clues and later on refill it with Emergency Cache which is on Stick to the Plan. On low shroud locations Caro investigates with a intellect of 7 due to one ally, Magnifying Glass and St. Hubert's Key in play. You can also support your team with Hypnotic Therapy, Liquid Courage, Logical Reasoning, Stand Together and Inspiring Presence. The rest of the deck is economy and card draw for items/supplies due to Backpack or specific cards like Hypnotic Therapy, Archive of Conduits due to No Stone Unturned or all non-skill cards except Liquid Courage, Magnifying Glass, Backpack and Dynamite Blast due to Jeremiah Kirby ("even"). You should take two metal trauma to be able to heal horror since turn 1 and turn the downside to an upside.
- The first upgrade could be Archive of Conduits to free up an seeker/mysic card 0-1 and a handslot. Death • XIII, Magnifying Glass or Divination can be good choises to add for the 15th seeker/mysik card depending on the situation stated below.
- The second upgrade could focus on a Stick to the Plan package with Ever Vigilant (because you have to give Logan credit), Emergency Cache and the Dynamite Blast. You should probably focus on upgrading Emergency Cache first, because you can find it also with Backpack. The Emergency Cache can refill the Fingerprint Kit with up to 4 uses , which is more Deduction. This also reduces the deck size at all and puts the situative card Dynamite Blast on the bench.
What to upgrate next depends on the situation as state below. Charisma is never bad. Your Options are:
- Archive of Conduits/Relic Hunter + Hallowed Mirror/Emergency Cache for supporting your teammates;
- Magnifying Glass/Dynamite Blast for increasing the hits on Jeremiah Kirby;
- Keen Eye/Charisma/Death • XIII/Grete Wagner + Charisma for higher bookscore (intellect);
- Stick to the Plan with Emergency Cache/ Emergency Cache/Ever Vigilant/Dynamite Blast for eco;
- Emergency Cache/Divination/Segment of Onyx + Relic Hunter/Eon Chart + Relic Hunter/Stirring Up Trouble for more clue per action;
- Pathfinder/Safeguard/Eon Chart + Relic Hunter for less move actions (Hiking Boots is also an option, but I don't like them, because I think they are to conditional. But you can find them with Jeremiah Kirby.);
- Brand of Cthugha/Brand of Cthugha in case you need damage.
- Occult Theory seems to be a good skillcard, but you are limeted by the 15 Seeker/Mysik cards.
- Deny Existence also frees a Seeker/Mysik card.
Opinion: I think Fingerprint Kit is an underused item. It's expensive and frustrating when you fail the investigate action. But it has +1 intellect and +1 clue for this intvestigation, which effectively is one Deduction a turn. Carolyn has the economy for the expansive playstyle. With the ability to have Stick to the Plan and Emergency Cache on it, you can refresh the Fingerprint Kit, whenever you want. You can have up to 11 supplies on one Fingerprint Kit, if you find your second Emergency Cache with the Backpack. These 11 uses should be enough for the hole scenario, if you have it on turn one and use it every turn. Finding the Fingerprint Kit with yellow cards and Backpack should also be very easy.
This Deck is not tested yet. I will test this deck with a flex Bob Jenkis and a fighter Dexter Drake.
If you want, you can adapt the idea of the endless Fingerprint Kit deck. I'm not a native english speaker and there are probably spelling mistakes. Sorry for that. Also there is one Charisma too many in the beginning.
Hey, good idea with the fingerprint refill, that must accelerate the clue getting significantly !
Just a feedback, maybe it’s worth getting 2 copies of Fingerprint Kit as it seems like it is the cornerstone of your deck and it would be a shame if it was buried deep and you can’t have it until quite late.
