Keep Faith

I think it's fair to say that, with most of the Innsmouth cycle completed, given all the later packs only include XP cards, that this is the best Bless Token generator at level 0. It's fast, so you only spend 1 card and 2 resources to get 40% of the maximum allowable tokens into the bag. Scrounge for Supplies and Resourceful can both get this back to you at the cost of an action. Preston Fairmont can take Ancient Covenant and pay for Leo De Luca very easily to afford Scrounging for this, though his Resourcefulness isn't quite as reliable (but can definitely work with some moderate boosting from a Mariner's Compass, Fire Axe, and/or Well Connected). William Yorick can take either the Ancient Covenant or the Sacred Covenant, and has access to both pools of Bless Token cards, including the resource saver Rite of Sanctification. Father Mateo can use this in combination with Blessing of Isis to trigger his Elder Sign ability way more consistently. I think the absolute top dog for this, though, is the rookie cop Tommy Muldoon, who can take almost any worthwhile Bless Token card in either of his classes and has the resource generation to back it up.

Worth noting also is that Tempt Fate is another level 0 card for Scrounging purposes, but with Keep Faith in the same deck, I see it being the more likely target. Still, Tempt Fate costs 0 instead of 2 and draws you a card, so having that option is nice. I doubt any Bless token deck wouldn't include both if it could (sorry Sister Mary).

It's less that it's the best and more that Keep Faith and Tempt Fate are realistically the *only* reliable ways to add blesses at 0xp, Sister Mary aside. — suika · 9511
Well Bless Blade and Book of Psalms are definitely meant to be primary generators, it seems, but they pale in comparison to Keep Faith imo. — StyxTBeuford · 13049
Gloria Goldberg

Scrying (lv3), Alyssa Graham, or Scroll of Secrets if taboo make Gloria to look encounter deck by trigger ability. All of those require exhaust, so that Gloria only use those cards once per round. After those cards are ready during upkeep phase, Gloria has no chance to trigger those ability until the encounter cards are totally resolved. However, if the encounter card initiates the skill test, Gloria has a chance to trigger those ability. This window is the key window if Gloria wanna to look all encounter cards for 4 players game. If no test will be initiated, another investigator plays A Test of Will (lv 0 or lv 2) to forcly initiate test.

If Gloria in balenced 4-player group, Gloria could focus on controling encounter deck. Even if Gloria only looks encounter decks, the group can be very safe & stable. Gloria doesn't need to consider Fight; the enemy is always drawn by fighter (or flexible fighter/evader). The clue gatherer could go alone without fearing of drawing enemy. If Gloria remains action, she could investigate with high or play event such as Read the Sign, Drawn from the Flame.

The key cards for encounter control is Scrying, Alyssa Graham, and Twila Katherine Price. Gloria could look 4 cards by Scrying. If 4 cards are ok, then place 4 cards. If 1 or more is terrible, then discard/seal one of those card. In this case, place 3rd encounter card which has a skill test. Then, when a investigator tests by 3rd encounter, trigger Alyssa to look final unknown card. Twila Katherine Price could save the charge of Scrying. If you want to save the for Scrying, you could take Scrying (lv3); in this case, however, Gloria needs horror soaking sources, because Scrying usually gives 1 horror.

What if every card you look at has surge. — SGPrometheus · 847
In this case, I prey that the next encounter has test. — elkeinkrad · 501
Blessed Blade

Really disappointing to see this weapon is not a relic ! It means that if you are playing Carcosa or TCU (for example) you can't rely on it to kill those annoying enemies who require spells / relics to be killed and so that if you want to have a fighter generating blessed tokens you will probably have to use both Blessed blade and Enchanted blade ! I for sure really hope this card will be tabooed to add it the "relic" trait.

I houseruled it as magic. It's glowing! — MrGoldbee · 1492
Well, we now have Enchant weapon to give it the Relic trait. — AlexP · 285
That really was a missed opportunity, yeah — Zinjanthropus · 230
Frozen in Fear

The bane of Rogues everywhere. This card, along with Rotting Remains, make Finn have trouble sleeping at night. You're going to be doing those sorts of tests more often than not, so having an answer for this card is important. Notable interaction: Momentum - Use Lockpicks or something to oversucceed by 3 as your last action, then test Frozen in Fear at difficulty 0!

KasaiAisu · 41
You could also include Logical Reasoning to deal with it as well. Finn and Tony can both manage that. For Preston, well, I hope you packed some "You handle this one!"s or else pump a bunch of resources into Dig Deep (or save them for Well Connected, but that might take a long while to clear if you get this early). Wini's 1 will, I've said before, is more like 3 because all of her stats go much further than normal (due to her high draw and desire to commit). Wini can reliably break this. — StyxTBeuford · 13049
Momentum says "This Phase." — MrGoldbee · 1492
"At the end of your turn" is still within the Investigation phase, so this seems absolutely legit. — Susumu · 381
@ StyxTBeuford: a 3 vs. 3 is still a terrible test. And I don't think, Wini would like to pack lots of will icons into her deck, so she would have to sacrifice valuble wilds on a test, she likely fails anyway. Preston on the other hand can safe up some resources to push the test reliable, or if he is Dark Horse, push himself up to 5 with "Rise to the Occasion". I think, the Momentum-trick is a great find, particularly for Wini. — Susumu · 381
You commit a little extra for Wini if you really need to is what I was getting at. I wouldn’t commit 2 to get 3v3, but if I commit 3 cards to get me to maybe 2 up, that’s not too bad, and you still draw a card. Her draw makes it so that high committing on a 1 isn’t that costly. Plus her signature is great for these kinds of tests. I do agree that Momentum is the best way to go. — StyxTBeuford · 13049
Plus Wini takes Momentum typically anyway. — StyxTBeuford · 13049
Just rush for two Sure Gambles as the cheapest and most reliable way to break this on Winifred or Finn. — suika · 9511
Obscure Studies

Amanda wants upgraded perception and deduction in her deck. The problem is, even with practice makes perfect, you can only play these cards so many times. ... so why not use obscure studies to loop them? Play them twice, then use obscure studies to put deduction(2) back in your hand. If you’re feeling frisky, or have control of the encounter deck (teaming with Gloria for example, or people with First Watch), You could even use your favorite skill card three times before replacing it. If you’re finishing up clues in a scenario, five uses of deduction(2) should do it for you, even if you miss a few times. Consider Cryptographic Cipher also gives you a fast action.

Another use of studies is to get rid of your weakness! The forced effect of whispers takes place at the beginning of a turn, so as long as you can apply whispers to a skill check before next round, you can get rid of it.

I did not understand how to play futa card before reading this review. — SGPrometheus · 847
*this, not futa. Whoop. — SGPrometheus · 847
What an unfortunate typo! — StyxTBeuford · 13049
*shrug* No way to delete comments, apparently. — SGPrometheus · 847
It's ok, we all have comments we wish we could delete. But I'll reinforce your point- very fair to point out the different ways to play with this card. — StyxTBeuford · 13049
